Product Description
Here's a major upgrade for the Ambassadeur 4000 through 6600 size reels. Kit consists of everything you need to fully modernize your levelwind system and is a SIMPLE EASY REPLACEMENT. Once installed, you will notice farther casting, smoother performance, and longer service life from the levelwind!
Instead of the wormshaft being supported by the stock plastic bushings, BOTH ENDS of this wormshaft are supported by ball bearings, and it's the bearings make this kit move like silk! We have included a black anodized, aluminum bodied, Titanium Line Guide for even more durability and for use with braided lines (or mono).
Now you can choose between the stock line guide pawl or the CERAMIC upgrade pawl! Once installed, we noticed a much more fluid feel to the levelwind system, and it felt like everything was connected together with perfection. This pawl made our Dual Bearing Worm kits work even smoother and faster! Upon testing these pawls out in the field, in one of the harshest environments available (sandy, silty waters) these babies came back without a scratch on them! The original part is a good part, but these add even more wear resistance and smoothness to your reel.

Awesome little upgrade
I have installed the upgrade kit from Mike's on all my reels. This worm bearing does smooth things up. I put it on an old Royal Express II, 6600C4, 5500C3 and I could tell a difference immediately in my casting I probably gained a good 20 feet per cast if I really pushed it (on the royal express). So all my reels are now C5s or C6s (depending on instant anti reverse bearing). I have he worm gear upgrade, idler bearing upgrade and ceramic spool bearings and ceramic pawl upgrades on all of them and they all feel like a new type reel (probably an extra $40-60/reel). I have to be careful on my hard cast and I had to leave the brakes on all of them bcs they are so smooth now I over spin easily if I am not thumbing it judiciously. I don't know if it was all worth it but it was fun and my reels are smoking now. Anyway the worm gear kit is the best of the upgrades bcs it helps with the cast tremendously.

Great Product.... Just slow Processing Time/Shipping
Loved the product. Really smoothed things up. Especially with the added bearing which is a carrier bearing.... not a ball bearing for those who are wondering. IT TAKES AWHILE TO GET stuff usually, worth the wait but do not expect to get this in a week.... probably close to 3 or 4 after you order. I will probably add this to all my reels eventually.

Dual bearing worm kit
Makes all the difference. The reel becomes so fast. I just love this kit. Want to fit this to all my reels now.

Worthy upgrade.
More distance achieved with less cast strength needed.

This is a pretty great upgrade
This is a pretty great upgrade, but wanted to write a tip for those with newer abus. My C3 came stock with one bearing in the level wind at the skinny end of the worm gear. If you have one like this you might want to look into getting only the worm gear in this kit plus the ceramic pawl (if you're in to that). You won't actually need the other bearing in the kit and the stock line guide and worm shaft on the reel work just fine so you won't need those either. I even kept the stock line guide on my reel because it is much lighter in weight and seems to perform better. Can't say anything about upgrading the older abus. Also a shout out to Melanie in customer service and whoever else helped on my order for being awesome. If interested, you should look into getting a 6500 series side plate and clicker plate to add a bait clicker to your 4600 or 5500 series Originally posted March 29, 2015

A++++
I have installed this bearing worm kit on several reels 5600c the older 80 model and a few other reel updates from Mikes and the reels I have redone are unbelieveable smooth and fast. I prefer them over the new Revo I got for Christmas last year. A++++ Originally posted Oct4, 2009

I river fish with my ambassadeur reels.
I river fish with my ambassadeur reels. I have a 7000, 6000, 5000, and a 6600cl. We took out the brakes to increase casting distance. I upgraded the 6000 with the new worm gear kit. My son took it out fishing, when He came back he informed me, that we would have to reinstall the brakes, since he could not slow it down. The reel is much smoother and casts farther.
