If you've ever been out fishing with your baitcast reel and notice the line sticking to one side, it may be your line guide pawl is worn out. These tiny little parts track the line back and forth on the spool, in conjunction with the worm shaft. When the pawl gets worn, it allows a bit of rotation in the worm track...this is what makes the line stick to one side or the other...a continuous tracking in one spot.
Not always can you get away with *just* changing the pawl, but alot of the time, if you catch it in time, a pawl change is all that's needed to keep fishing!
Have a look at the two below pawls. The one on the left you can clearly see where it rides against the worm tracks with the crescent shaped wear line near the tip. The pawl on the right is a new, unused part.
