This is a genuine Daiwa replacement Pinion Shaft, part number F80-0501.
The pinion shaft is a critical component in your baitcasting reel's drivetrain. It is the precision-ground rod that the pinion gear rides on. This shaft is responsible for allowing the pinion gear to smoothly disengage from the main gear when you press the thumb bar, which enables a free-spinning spool for casting. It then perfectly re-aligns the pinion gear to re-engage the main gear when you turn the handle.
