Product Description
Convert Your Humminbird for the Hardwater: The XI 9 20 Ice Transducer
Transform your open-water Humminbird fish finder into a powerful, precise ice fishing machine with the Humminbird XI 9 20 (Part No. 710211-1) Ice Transducer. Designed specifically for the unique demands of fishing on frozen lakes, this transducer allows you to utilize your existing Humminbird unit year-round, providing a clear picture of the activity directly below your hole. It’s an essential tool for any angler looking to gain an edge on the ice, from locating structure to watching fish interact with a lure in real-time.
Key Features at a Glance:
- Dual Beam Sonar: Employs two sonar beams (20° and 60°) for both high-detail and wide-area searches, allowing you to quickly find fish and then zoom in on the action.
- Ice-Specific Design: The transducer is weighted to hang level without tipping and is housed in a durable, low-temperature-rated body.
- Included Float and Cable: Comes complete with an 8-foot cable and a custom foam float that suspends the transducer at the perfect depth below the ice, ensuring a clear and stable signal.
- Simple Connectivity: Features the standard Humminbird connector for plug-and-play use with a wide range of compatible models.
- Proven Technology: Utilizes traditional 200/83 kHz frequencies, a reliable standard for excellent target separation and depth penetration through the ice.
Detailed Technical Breakdown
The XI 9 20 is engineered for one primary purpose: to excel in a vertical, stationary fishing environment. Unlike transom-mount transducers designed for moving boats, the XI 9 20 provides the specific sonar functionality needed for ice fishing.
-
Sonar Technology: The transducer operates on Humminbird's proven Dual Beam sonar technology. This gives the angler two distinct views of the water column:
- 200 kHz Narrow Beam (20° cone angle): This is your precision beam. It provides the highest target resolution, making it ideal for distinguishing individual fish, seeing your jig, and identifying fish that are tight to the bottom. This is the go-to beam for active jigging.
- 83 kHz Wide Beam (60° cone angle): This beam offers three times the coverage area of the narrow beam. It's perfect for searching a new spot to see if any fish are in the vicinity or for tracking a fish that moves just outside the narrow cone.
-
Construction: The unit is built to withstand the harsh realities of ice fishing. The transducer body is robust, and the 8-foot cable is specifically chosen for its shorter length, which prevents tangles and clutter in a confined ice shack or around your hole. The included foam float is essential for suspending the transducer just below the ice surface, keeping it level and protected.
Please Note: This transducer does not have a built-in temperature sensor, as surface temperature is not a relevant data point for ice fishing. It also does not support CHIRP, Down Imaging (DI), or Side Imaging (SI) technologies. It is a dedicated 2D sonar transducer.
Models Used On: An Extensive Compatibility List
The XI 9 20 Ice Transducer is one of Humminbird's most versatile accessories, designed to be compatible with a vast number of past and present fish finder models, especially those without CHIRP sonar capabilities. To use this transducer, compatible HELIX models must be set to "Ice Fishing Mode" in the menu.
This transducer is the ideal choice for converting the following types of units for ice fishing:
-
First Generation ICE HELIX Models (Non-CHIRP): The original ICE HELIX units were designed around this transducer's technology.
-
Non-CHIRP HELIX Models:
- HELIX 5 Sonar G2, HELIX 5 Sonar GPS G2
- HELIX 7 Sonar G2, HELIX 7 Sonar GPS G2
- First-generation HELIX 5 and HELIX 7 models
-
Legacy Model Series (Non-DI/SI): This transducer is broadly compatible with a huge range of older Humminbird units, making it a perfect way to give them a new life on the ice. This includes, but is not limited to:
- 100 Series: (e.g., 141c, 161)
- 300 Series: (e.g., 323, 343c, 363, 383c)
- 500 Series: (e.g., 550, 565, 570, 595c, 597ci)
- 600 Series: (e.g., 678c, 688ci)
- 700 Series: (e.g., 718, 728, 788ci)
- 800 Series: (e.g., 859ci)
- 900 Series: (e.g., 959ci)
- 1100 Series: (e.g., 1159ci)
- Matrix Series: (e.g., Matrix 17, 27, 87c)
Important Compatibility Note: While the XI 9 20 will physically connect to and function with many CHIRP-enabled and Down Imaging (DI) units, it will only provide traditional 2D sonar returns. You will not get the benefits of CHIRP sonar, and the DI functions will not work. For CHIRP-enabled units (HELIX G2N and newer), the recommended transducer for optimal performance is the Humminbird XI 9 1521.
If you own a compatible Humminbird unit, the XI 9 20 transducer is the most reliable and effective way to extend its use onto the ice, providing the critical information you need to find and catch more fish through the hardwater.
