Montauk 250 Trolling / Surf Reel

We estimate the time of this reel's manufacture around 1920 or earlier. Schultz company in New York was around this time and were producing reels then. There are more popular Penn style that look more like them....this one is more unique... Has the 'Montauk' cast into the right side and 'Schultz, 122 Nassua Street, Made in USA' on the foot along with '250' which must be the size. Reel is in unbeleivable running shape. The gears feel like new and the clicker is srong. This reel has a clutch lever but was engineered without a drag system like alot of early reels...you use your thumb for drag. Reel has some minor chrome pitting and one chip on the bottom of the left side plate as seen in one of the photos. A very collectable reel!
