Following the overwhelming success of our previous idler gear kits, we decided it was time to elevate our standards even higher. Introducing the latest innovation in our lineup: the most lightweight and efficient idler gear we've ever designed!
Featuring advanced Super Porting technology, we've meticulously reduced the gear's weight by cutting away unnecessary material, all without compromising its durability and performance. This gear sets a new benchmark for lightness in its class.
Our upgraded idler gears come equipped with two high-precision ABEC 7 bearings, ensuring an exceptionally smooth and extended casting experience. They are compatible with a wide range of classic Abu round reels, from the 4000 to the 6600 series, directly replacing the original part number 5152 idler gear. However, it's important to note that this kit is not suitable for newer Abu models that require the 23404 and 23403 idler and spool gears.
The idler Gear kit includes:
- A ported idler gear, specifically designed to accommodate bearings
- Two premium stainless bearings, with the option to upgrade to ceramic hybrid bearings
- A bearing spacer for precise tuning adjustments
- A 4490 c-clip as a spare or replacement part
For guidance on removing the old idler gear and conducting a spin test, please refer to the instructional videos provided below.
Please be aware that these idler gears are not compatible with certain models, such as those in the UC series, which require the 23293 idler gear due to a different tooth profile. Additionally, older reel models do not need the spool gear included in this kit, as they use a distinct style.

Good for small Ambassadeurs
Nice for 1500/2500 size reels. For bigger reels I think they are overkill.

Dual bearing idler gear
Great product. Very easy to install. This part coupled with the dual bearing worm gear kit makes a low end 6500 C3 cast like some of the higher end models. Definitely worth the money. I will buy again in the future.

Like I said....it makes your reel wicked fast. I figured for the extra few bucks I got ceramic bearings too

Does increasing your distance by 10' matter??
If you fish clear water and/or pressured fish then 10 feet means a lot. The Abu Ambassadeur 5k and 6k reels are reliable and now a tune -up with Mikes Dual Bearing Idler kit can keep you casting effectively at longer distances. Installation is easy even if you havent been inside your reel very often. It took me longer to take out my OEM cog wheel w/ no bearings than it did to install Mikes Kit. Next time I will sharpen my Xacto knife before I start to remove the collar on the top of the cog wheel.

For 20 bucks you can't go wrong
For 20 bucks you really can't go wrong ... I'm not saying you need this for your reel to work properly but it will make everything move smoothly and its also just fun to tell your friend you have 2 more bearings more than they do and let's face it 20 bucks for bragging rights is definitely worth it

Huge difference
This 2 bearing cog wheel makes my reel cast so much further. I bought it with the 2 bearing worm and ceramic pawl. Reel feels and casts like a million bucks. Nice!
