Product Description
The Humminbird XHS 9 HDSI 180 T is a legendary transom mount transducer, renowned for its reliability and for bringing the game-changing clarity of Side Imaging to anglers for years. As the workhorse for many of Humminbird's most popular fish finder units, this transducer provides a comprehensive and detailed view of the underwater environment. It is the ideal replacement for a damaged unit or the correct standard-issue transducer needed to unlock the full imaging potential of a wide range of legacy and HELIX models.
Key Features at a Glance:
- High-Definition Side Imaging (HDSI): Delivers a massive 180-degree, side-to-side view to survey huge areas of water and pinpoint structure, drop-offs, and fish far from the boat.
- High-Definition Down Imaging (HDDI): Uses the Side Imaging crystals to create a crystal-clear, picture-like view of what is directly beneath your transom, revealing fish, vegetation, and structure with stunning detail.
- DualBeam PLUS Sonar: Offers traditional 2D sonar with two distinct beams—a wide beam for searching and a narrow beam for detail—which can be viewed separately, side-by-side, or blended.
- Built-in Temperature Sensor: Provides fast and accurate surface water temperature readings directly to your Humminbird display.
- Hydrodynamic & Durable Design: Engineered for optimal performance at speed and built to withstand the harsh marine environment. Includes an impact-release mounting bracket to protect the transducer from underwater obstructions.
- Extensive Compatibility: Serves as the standard or replacement transducer for a vast number of highly popular Humminbird fish finders.
A Deeper Dive into the Technology
High-Definition Side Imaging (HDSI)
This is the core technology of the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T. It functions by transmitting ultra-thin sonar beams out to the left and right sides of your boat, covering a total span of 180 degrees. The returning signals are compiled into a detailed, easy-to-read image of the bottom. This is incredibly effective for quickly finding key fishing areas like sunken channels, rock piles, weed beds, and schools of baitfish that may be hundreds of feet away from your boat.
- Operating Frequencies: 455 kHz for excellent balance of range and detail, and 800 kHz for sharper, more detailed images at shorter ranges.
DualBeam PLUS™ 2D Sonar
This transducer provides a powerful and flexible traditional fish-finding experience. Unlike CHIRP sonar which sweeps through frequencies, DualBeam PLUS uses two fixed frequencies that work in concert.
- Narrow Beam (200 kHz): A focused, high-detail beam that is excellent for target separation and identifying fish holding tight to the bottom directly below the boat.
- Wide Beam (83 kHz): A wider search beam that covers a greater area, perfect for searching for fish in the upper water column and understanding the general layout of the area you are covering.
Models Used On: An Essential Compatibility Guide
The XHS 9 HDSI 180 T is one of Humminbird's most widely used transducers. It was the standard-issue transducer for many legacy Side Imaging models and several generations of HELIX units.
Primary Compatible Models (Standard Equipment):
This transducer was originally packaged with and is the correct factory replacement for a huge range of models, including:
-
Legacy 700, 800, 900 & 1100 Series HDSI Models:
- 797c2 SI, 798c SI, 798ci HD SI
- 898c SI, 898c HD SI, 899ci HD SI
- 987c SI, 997c SI, 998c SI, 998c HD SI, 999ci HD SI
- 1197c SI, 1198c SI, 1199ci HD SI
-
First Generation & G1 HELIX Models:
- HELIX 9 SI GPS
- HELIX 10 SI GPS
- HELIX 12 CHIRP SI GPS
Use as a Replacement or Optional Transducer:
This transducer can also be used as a replacement on newer G2/G2N HELIX models, but it is critical to understand the following:
- Important Performance Note: If you connect this HDSI transducer to a fish finder that is MEGA Imaging capable (e.g., a HELIX 9 CHIRP MSI GPS G2N), your fish finder will only be able to produce HD Side Imaging (using 455/800 kHz). It will NOT produce MEGA Imaging. This transducer is the correct choice if you are replacing a broken HDSI transducer on an older unit, but it is not an upgrade for a MEGA-capable unit.
